During their TUDUM event, Netflix debuted a brand new Rebel Moon special feature. The impending Zack Snyder–created space opera has the potential to launch a new, lucrative franchise for the streaming service.
Snyder set out on his trip to Rebel Moon by speculating on what an adult Star Wars story may be like. Snyder's pitch was met with negative feedback from Lucasfilm, but it just encouraged the director to create an entirely new fantasy setting. The making-of footage suggests that this could have been a fortunate turn of events. Snyder was free to create an engagingly original cosmos, complete with memorable characters and stunning settings, because he wasn't limited by canon.
While the plot of Rebel Moon remains a mystery, the new featurette does showcase the film's star-studded ensemble decked out in full battle regalia. Kora, played by Sofia Boutella, is a strong young woman who goes on an adventure to locate soldiers to help defend her tranquil farming world from Regent Belisarius (Ed Skrein), who is brutal and cruel. To strengthen his galactic empire, the tyrant preys on the helpless, and only an unusual group of heroes can stop him.
Snyder's spectacular action sequences for Rebel Moon are also teased in the new trailer. Based on the brief clip we saw, Rebel Moon seems absolutely gorgeous. In addition, Snyder intends to produce an R-rated version of his cosmic epic, so viewers may anticipate a great deal of bloodshed.
When can we expect to see Rebel Moon on Netflix?
After Snyder's massive success with Army of the Dead, which created a franchise on Netflix, the two parties entered into a first-look contract, and Rebel Moon is the first picture to come out of that agreement. It appears that Netflix has found another hit with Rebel Moon, and there are likely many more stories to be told in this new galaxy. As a result of the length of the tale, Snyder has decided to divide Rebel Moon into two films. What's more, the new behind-the-scenes movie shows that Snyder is designing distant worlds and weird societies that may be studied for decades.
Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, and Hollywood icon Anthony Hopkins are just some of the stars who appear in Rebel Moon.
On December 22, 2023, just in time for the holidays, the first episode of Rebel Moon will premiere on Netflix. No date has been set for the sequel's debut, but Snyder has assured fans the wait won't be too long.
