In James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and others will endure in-person screen tests.
Nicholas Hoult (The Great), David Corenswet (Pearl), and Tom Brittney (Grantchester) are preparing for in-person screen tests for Superman: Legacy. Deadline reports that the trio will audition for Clark Kent, aka Superman, during Father's Day weekend.
The renowned Lois Lane will also be tested in person by three actresses. Deadline reports that Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) will audition for Lois, but “some of the test deals are still being negotiated and haven't all closed.”
We await additional details, but this group of performers appears to be the top candidates for Superman and Lois in Superman: Legacy. This update may clarify if Hoult, who auditioned second to Robert Pattinson for The Batman, is applying for Superman or Lex Luthor.
The news will please David Corenswet supporters. The actor, best known for Pearl, The Politician, and We Own This City, has long been a fan favorite for Superman, expressing his love for the comic book character. “My pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman,” the actor remarked in 2019. I want to see an optimistic, retro Superman. The Henry Cavill dark and gritty perspective is great, but I want the next one to be light and optimistic.”
In 2025, Superman: Legacy Will Launch the DCU.
James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU will begin with a teenage Superman in 2025's Superman: Legacy. Official synopsis: "Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas." “He represents truth, justice, and the American way, led by human kindness in a world that considers kindness old-fashioned."
Superman: Legacy will be written and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn, who previously discussed the challenges of making a Superman film. It's easy to use a persona nobody knows, like the Guardians or Peacemaker, and do whatever you want. Every country knows Superman's narrative, he added, adding that he must change him. How can I make it different from previous Superman films while respecting them? Gunn remarked that it took him time to find it out.
The new DCU will begin with the Superman reboot, followed by Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing reboot, and Paradise Lost, a Wonder Woman prequel series.
Release date for Superman: Legacy is July 11, 2025.
